What is Pilates?

Pilates is a systematic approach to exercise that isolates the deep stabilizing core musculature of the body. Individual Pilates sessions are performed on either the mat or the Pilates reformer. Movements integrate the head and neck, thorax/scapulae, and pelvis with the breath to establish a synchronous whole body connection. Exercise performed in this manner provides length and strength the spine, while facilitating the flexibility and mobility necessary for everyday functional movements.
