Registered Massage Therapist
He/Him
Thomas Fang is a Registered Massage Therapist practicing in downtown Vancouver. He takes a thoughtful, education focused approach to treatment—aiming not only to relieve pain, but to help clients develop better coordination, awareness, and control of how they move.
Thomas believes that effective care starts with understanding each client’s goals and patterns. His treatments are interactive, often involving hands-on guidance to help patients learn how to engage and move specific areas of the body with greater precision. When appropriate, he also incorporates strategies to support nervous system regulation, particularly for clients experiencing high stress or anxiety.
By combining clear communication, assessment, and client involvement, Thomas creates structured yet adaptable treatment plans designed to promote meaningful and lasting improvement.
What are your top skills as a registered massage therapist?
I like working with individuals experiencing chronic pain and complex movement issues. My strength lies in breaking down complicated presentations into clear treatment priorities, using manual therapy to reduce sensitivity and restore movement. I prioritize helping clients understand what I’m finding during assessment, so we can build a management or recovery plan together with clarity and confidence.
What kind of approach do you take with clients?
I work with a structured, problem-solving approach, particularly with patients who have chronic pain or complex histories. I focus on identifying the most limiting factors first, rather than trying to address everything at once. Treatment blends manual therapy, movement, and education to help clients regain confidence and capacity over time.
How would a friend describe you?
I have been described as thoughtful, curious, and quietly analytical. I tend to listen more than I speak, and when I do, it’s usually to help make sense of a problem or situation.
What drew you to this profession?
I found massage therapy during a period of transition in my life, when I was searching for work that felt meaningful. I was drawn to supporting people whose bodies had been worn down by the demands of work and daily life, and this profession aligned naturally with my desire to help in a practical, hands-on way.
What lights you up about the work you do?
What energizes me most is making sense of complex or confusing pain presentations and helping patients understand what’s going on in their bodies.
What motivates you in patient care?
I’m motivated by helping patients feel better while also understanding what’s happening in their bodies. Supporting the transition from care that depends on me to care they can confidently manage themselves is deeply rewarding.
Can you share some highlights in your background or training?
I’m a Registered Massage Therapist with experience working in a multidisciplinary clinic setting. My training emphasizes assessment, movement-based treatment, and working with individuals experiencing chronic or complex pain. I continue to refine my skills through ongoing learning, collaboration with other healthcare providers, and clinical experience with diverse presentations.
What's something people might not expect about you?
People might be surprised to hear I took up break dancing as my go to hobby for exercise.
Where can we find you when you're not at the clinic?
When I’m not at the clinic, you can usually find me training, swimming, or practicing breaking.
What are your non-negotiable heath/wellness practices or rituals?
Listening to my body, focusing on quality of movement, and using breath to stay grounded are core parts of how I care for my health.
