What are your top skills as a yoga instructor?
Offering clear instruction and individualized cuing that helps you feel where your body is in space and makes what we’re doing work with your individual circumstances.
What kind of approach do you take with clients?
I prioritize nervous system regulation in my classes which informs how I structure the class and my style of care.
How would a friend describe you?
Compassionate and direct.
What drew you to this profession?
I was going through significant health challenges following a concussion and having a difficult time finding any relief from my symptoms. I tried yoga and it was the first time I felt free from the nearly constant pain, nausea and vertigo I was experiencing. I was eager to learn more about it based on how profoundly it improved my quality of life and enrolled in my a teacher training course shortly after my first class.
What lights you up about the work you do?
When I see a cue land in someone’s body! I also love when I am working with someone experiencing chronic health issues and the find a bit of relief through movement.
What motivates you in patient care?
Helping people move well and feel more comfortable and at ease in their bodies.
Can you share some highlights in your background or training?
I took my first teacher training in Spain in 2009, which included creative yoga sequencing and meditation. In 2011, I had the opportunity to go back to Spain to assist that same training. From 2011-2012, I spent 9 months learning from and completing an advanced teacher training with Nicki Doane and Eddie Modestini, who specialize in alignment, injury prevention and using yoga to support conditions such as scoliosis. In 2014, I completed a training that was focused on meditation and breath work. From 2016-2019, I helped design and instruct a training program that certified others to teach yoga.
What's something people might not expect about you?
I love classic video games like N64 Mario Kart and Tetris.
Where can we find you when you're not at the clinic?
I enjoy spending time outdoors with my husky.
What are your non-negotiable heath/wellness practices or rituals?
Almost daily yoga and body rolling! What I teach in my classes is what I practice and have found to be essential in my day to day life.
